Visual artist Estibaliz Sádaba with a PhD in Art and Research presents the production processes of the 2 works she produced during her residencies at the Academy of Spain in Rome: "Las sobrantes.
It is aimed at highlighting the active role of women in Ancient Rome and, at the same time, showing what feminist theorists think and how different women work in contemporary Italy.
“Subversiones domésticas” (2020) is the result of a reflection about women being shut in the domestic space. It is aimed at making an invisible work both visible and public. To achieve this goal, I rely on the texts of 2 feminist Italian thinkers of the 70s, namely Silvia Federici and Mariarosa Dalla Costa. They enable me to show, through my expertise in video and performance, how the work of caring and maintenance undertaken in the domestic space is still considered as something marginal in our society.
