Artist and writer Himali Singh Soin presents “Ancestors of the blue moon”, a performative multisensory experience, in Bastida Hall.
“Ancestors of the blue moon” is based on her research on the Himalayas, its animistic rituals or remedies, mystical geometries, old-new materialism, and spirit realism. Using this as a starting point, she creates flash fictions from the perspective of remote or forgotten deities. Himali presents in Bilbao the Basque deity Mairu, the supernatural spirit of gateways. Bastida Hall is transformed into an experimental space, inviting the audience to join the artist with David Soin Tappeser, a drummer, composer and performance artist, in a ritual which includes a gong bath, community readings and meetings.

“Ancestors of the blue moon” is part of The Wellbeing Summit for Social Change artistic programme, the world summit for social and community change through collective action, to be held in Bilbao from 31st May to 3rd June.
The Wellbeing Summit for Social Change is divided into conferences, meeting sessions and an artistic programme open to the audience, aimed at highlighting the transformative capacity of art and culture. The Summit Arts Programme includes over a dozen artistic proposals in cultural spaces, such as Azkuna Zentroa. This is the case of “Scientia”, the site specific created by the artist Grimanesa Amorós for the Atrium. This light installation can be visited at the end of August in the central Alhóndiga space. Furthermore, “Remember this: the lesson of Jan Karski”, a theatre piece revolving around the figure of Jan Karski, an important activist against the Holocaust, will be performed on 31st May.
