Lock&Key - Karlos Martínez B.
Presentation of the artist joined by Aimar Arriola, Azkuna Zentroa Associate Researcher
Karlos Martínez B. works sculpture from drawing and two dimensions, a process where volume takes shape from the plane. Recently, in another context, the artist stated that in his current work he seeks to pay attention to one’s own desire, to ensnare it, doubting as to whether such a thing is possible; with the suspicion that binding desires implies, rather, submitting oneself to them.
Taking the image of a lock comprising an internal mechanism (not visible) and outer body (visible), Karlos M. Bordoy´s participation in “A Desire Form” consists of 2 parts, namely, a workshop session on 8th May (limited to those interested, with free access prior registration) and a public dialogue on 9th May. Both events will be held in the company of Aimar Arriola.
The two activities work together as the gears of a safety lock, where one element makes the other move. The proposal completes “A Desire Form”, the public programme and research which Aimar Arriola has developed as an Azkuna Zentroa Associate Researcher.

The workshop will follow a conversational methodology and will be based on own and reference materials focused on the same question: how desire feeds and subjects us, and the possibility of resolving this twin force in a technical manner. It specifically proposes looking at a series of source images, sketches and installation views of an exhibition titled “Black Patterns”, including a series of the artist’s sculptures, functioning not only as a boundary and guideline but also as the session exit hole.
* Participants must bring a computer to carry out the workshop.
