In a small provincial town, a group of leisurely bourgeois ladies have the idea of organizing a Christmas campaign with the slogan ‘Have a poor person round for dinner’.

The idea is that the needy can share a Christmas Eve meal with affluent families and enjoy the warmth and kindness that they otherwise lack. Plácido has been booked to appear in a procession with his motorbike-car, but a problem arises that prevents him from focussing on his work: on that same day, he is due to pay the first instalment on the vehicle, which is his only way of making a living.

Did you know…

Nominated for an Oscar in 1961 for best foreign-language film, Plácido is a fierce criticism of the ‘Have a poor person round for dinner’ campaign promoted by the Franco régime in the 1950s appealing to Christian charity at Christmas.
