"Oro negro" is a solo in 2 bodies with live music.
Oil, the black gold which has transformed the world, is the metaphor with which the dancer and choreographer Poliana Lima has created this piece. It is poetically associated to the excavation process of a treasure and places emphasis on the elements and identities that were denied and excluded from dominant Western culture.
In “Oro negro”, the body is the instrument which unearths, and the object unearthed is where the diabolical is revealed: the soft, vulnerable and perishable flesh; the erotic female from the perspective of a woman’s desire; blackness and popular.

“Oro negro” is conceived as a territory of living memory and a place where biographical, family, community, socio-cultural, mythical and spiritual dimensions are articulated and become readable. This conception of body enables the exploration of footprints left by the tacit processes of conveying habits, customs, violence, pain and pleasure throughout several generations. It allows us to explore these multiple identity, cultural and temporal dimensions which make up the body as a diverse dynamic yet unstable conglomeration.
After its premiere in the Abadía Theatre as part of the 40th Autumn Festival in 2022, Poliana Lima is presenting her new work in Azkuna Zentroa, where she developed part of the creative process.

Poliana Lima (Brazil, 1983) is a choreographer, dancer and teacher. She always wanted to be a dancer ever since she was a child, and at the age of 20 it became a vital part of her life. Since her first creation, Palo En La Rueda, in 2011, her works have received awards and are performed at different national and international festivals.
Taking the body as the core of her expression, she explores the possibilities of creating poetry on stage aimed at communicating simply and profoundly with the audience. Identity and memory are recurrent themes in her creations, likewise the relationship between creation and teaching, which she considers an essential part of her work as an artist.
