FILM DIRECTOR, SCREENWRITER, AND FILM PRODUCER
Apichatpong Weerasethakul is a Thai independent film director, screenwriter, and film producer.
He occupies a privileged place in that small group of world filmmakers who have an absolutely unique and original look. He studied architecture at Khon Kaeny University and studied at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago.
His films have received prestigious awards such as the Un Certain Regard award at the Cannes Film Festival for “Blissfully yours” (2002), the Palme d'Or at Cannes for “Uncle Boonmee remembers his past lives” (2010) or the Lion of Gold at the Venice Film Festival for “Syndromes and a Century” (2006). In 2008 the French Ministry of Culture awarded him the Medal of Knight of Arts and Letters. The French honorary distinction was raised to the Commander's Medal in 2017.
