CARLES GUERRA

CURATOR

An art critic, professor, and researcher, Carles Guerra has held the post of Director at the Primavera Fotogràfica de Catalunya, Director at La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, Chief Curator at the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) and, from 2015 to 2020, Director at the Fundació Antoni Tàpies.

In addition to an extensive list of monographic exhibitions that include artists such as Perejaume, Joaquim Jordà, Xavier Ribas, Ahlam Shibli, Art & Language, Allan Sekula, Susan Meiselas, Harun Farocki, Oriol Vilanova, Ariella Aïsha Azoulay and Clemente Bernad, he has curated projects such as 1979. U“1979. Un monumento a instantes radicales” (1979. A Monument to Radical Moments) and Antoni Tàpies. Biografía política” (Antoni Tàpies. Political Biography), attempting in both cases to respond to the legacy of a conflictive modernity.

His latest research project deals with the figure of the Catalan psychiatrist Francesc Tosquelles. This project has been exhibited at Musée Les Abattoirs, Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona CCCB, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía MNCARS and The American Folk Art Museum AFAM in New York, under the title “Tosquelles. Como una máquina de coser en un campo de trigo” (Tosquelles. Like a sewing machine in a wheat field).
