An artist with a PhD in Fine Arts from UPV/EHU, Estibaliz Sádaba Murguía has been active in numerous artistic, critical, editorial, and curatorial activities at the intersection of contemporary art and feminism since the early nineties.
Her recent work reflects on the historical challenges women face in relation to public space and their confinement within domestic spaces, in both rural and urban settings.
She is the recipient of numerous production grants and awards, including the grant awarded by the Casa Velázquez-Fundación Miró Mallorca residency, the Juncal Ballestín/Museo Artium International Research Grant, and the grants awarded by Las Cigarreras Alicante Residency, Fundación Arte y Derecho, Fundación Bilbaoarte, and the Spanish Academy in Rome (2019 y 2016).
Her work has been exhibited individually at venues like Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum (2024, Madrid), Museo Lázaro Galdeano (2024, Madrid), BienalSur-Centro de Arte Muntref (2023, Buenos Aires), BBVA Foundation (2019, Madrid), MUSAC (2017, León), and Albumarte Gallery (Rome), and collectively at Centro Centro (2020, Madrid), Matadero (2018, Madrid), La Panera (2019, Lleida), Azkuna Zentroa (Roma Akademia, Bilbao, 2021), and the Spanish Academy in Rome, with video screenings in numerous European and Latin American festivals and exhibition centres.
Estibaliz Sádaba Murguía has also pursued curatorial projects, including the international videographic series “Reactivando Videografías” for AECID (2020-2022, www.reactivandovideografias.com) and the group exhibition “Archivos, registros necesarios” (Bizkaia Aretoa, 2020, Bilbao). She is a co-founder of the Erreakzioa-Reacción collective (1994).
